Discrimination in sport seen as tool for punishing politically-independent sovereign countries
MINSK, 12 July (BelTA) — Discrimination in sport has become a tool for punishing politically-independent sovereign countries, Chairperson of the Council of the Republic Natalya Kochanova said at the third expanded plenary meeting session on the topic «Interparliamentary humanitarian and cultural cooperation” at the 10th BRICS Parliamentary Forum, BelTA has learned.
«A topical issue on the humanitarian agenda is discrimination in sport, which has become a tool for punishing politically-intendment sovereign countries that pursue an independent domestic and foreign policy in the interests of their own peoples. This has never happened in the history of the Olympic movement,» Natalya Kochanova said.
Only in a fair fight you have a chance for victory, the speaker noted. «In this regard, we welcome BRICS Games and sincerely thank all the organizers and participants. We are convinced that the tradition of holding them will contribute to the revival of the true spirit of the Olympic movement and its main principle: sport and politics do not mix. The Paralympic movement of BRICS+ will certainly ensure inclusion in big sport,» Natalya Kochanova stressed.
