MINSK, 14 September (BelTA) – A solemn flower ceremony took place at the Minsk Hero City Monument on 14 September, BelTA has learned.
Minskers gathered to honor the memory of the participants of the Great Patriotic War who fell while defending the Motherland and the capital of Belarus. The ceremony was attended by Chairperson of the Council of the Republic Natalya Kochanova, Internal Affairs Minister Ivan Kubrakov, Minsk Mayor Vladimir Kukharev.
The flower ceremony was preceded by a theatrical show.
Representatives of the Minsk City Hall, district administrations, the public, Minsk enterprises, law enforcement agencies, MPs, guests from the twin cities, veterans, and young people gathered in this landmark site of the city.
“We are especially grateful to the president, who pays close attention to our veterans. Today is a great holiday for Minsk, which received the title of Hero City for its heroism. I am glad to be here, and that we have a peaceful sky above us, that we enjoy our life. We must pass on the love for our homeland to the youth,” veteran, participant of the war in Afghanistan Anatoly Zharikov said.
A flower ceremony at Minsk Hero City Monument traditionally opens the program of the Minsk City Day celebrations. This year the capital celebrates 957 years since its foundation.
The architectural and sculptural complex, including the obelisk and the bronze sculpture Motherland is part of the unified ensemble of the Belarusian State Museum of the History of the Great Patriotic War.
