Additional forces deployed to detect drones at Belarusian-Ukrainian border
MINSK, 29 June (BelTA) – Belarus adequately responds to the situation around the country in the air space, BelTA learned from Chief of the Air Defense Missile Forces of the Air Force and Air Defense Command of Belarus’ Armed Forces, Colonel Andrei Severinchik.
Andrei Severinchik said: “We’ve lately been registering a sharp increase in the number of reconnaissance drone flights scouting areas near the Belarusian border. The situation in the air space is tense. We see constant violations of the state border in the air space of our state. Due to the nature of the tasks we fulfill we cannot always openly talk about all the violations. But I can assure you that no violation will be left unanswered.”
He added: “You have to bear in mind that Ukrainian army units in the territory near the border are fitted not only with recon drones but also with drones capable of delivering strikes deep into Belarus’ territory. Although Ukrainian army units experience shortages of air defense systems in other areas, we see a concentration of air defense forces in Zhitomir Oblast.”
“In these conditions air force and air defense units adequately respond to the situation evolving around the Republic of Belarus. For the sake of detecting aerial vehicles in Belarus’ air space we’ve deployed additional reconnaissance assets. Mobile low-altitude radar teams of the radar troops have been deployed. The system of visual observation posts has been enhanced for the sake of feeding information to fire units of air defense troops, operational commands on combat duty,” Andrei Severinchik noted.
BelTA reported earlier that units of the Ukrainian army, including special operations forces and special units of the Central Intelligence Office of Ukraine’s Defense Ministry, which are located in the responsibility area of the Zhitomir branch of Ukraine’s border service, have been recently reinforced.
It was also revealed that the State Border Committee possesses information that there are units of the so-called Russian Volunteer Corps in the responsibility area of the Zhitomir border service branch in Ukraine. The units have been reconnoitering the terrain and performing active intelligence-gathering activities, including by approaching the Belarusian border.
