Agenda of CIS summit in Moscow revealed

MINSK, 24 September (BelTA) – We are on the home stretch in terms of the preparation of the CIS summit, CIS First Deputy Secretary General Leonid Anfimov told the media, BelTA has learned.

Minsk is playing host to a meeting of the CIS Council of Permanent Plenipotentiary Representatives. The plenipotentiaries are considering the prospects for the development of the CIS legal framework, the preparations for the meetings of the CIS Foreign Ministers Council and the CIS Heads of State Council.

«In fact, we are on the home stretch in terms of the preparation and conduct of meetings of the CIS supreme bodies. They will be held in Moscow in early October. These are a meeting of the CIS Foreign Ministers Council on 7 October and a meeting of the CIS Heads of State Council on 8 October. The agenda of these events was formed back in July. I will not dwell on the agenda of the ministerial meeting. I will name only some items. Because according to the regulations, items  that are submitted for discussion of the heads of state, as a rule, are approved by the Foreign Ministers Council. The foreign ministers will discuss cooperation in the CIS, on the CIS chairmanship (next year Tajikistan takes it over from the Russian Federation) and the next meeting of the CIS Heads of State Council,» Leonid Anfimov said.

In an extended format the CIS Foreign Ministers Council is expected to consider the address of the CIS Heads of State Council to the peoples of the CIS and the world community on the occasion of the 80th anniversary of the Victory in the Great Patriotic War of the Soviet people of 1941-1945. «Chairman of the House of Representatives of the National Assembly of the Republic of Belarus Igor Sergeyenko will make a report on this issue. Speaker of the Federation Council, Chairwoman of the CIS Interparliamentary Assembly Valentina Matviyenko will report on the activities of the CIS Interparliamentary Assembly to promote integration cooperation,» he said.

«Two very important statements will be adopted (at least, they are on the agenda today): on the development of cooperation in artificial intelligence for civilian purposes and on the principles of Eurasian security,» Leonid Anfimov added. “The council is set to pass a program of interaction between the CIS member states on de-radicalization within the CIS and the regulation on the City of Labor Glory. 1941-1945 and to identify the CIS Capitals of Culture in 2025-2027. A number of personnel issues will be on the agenda too.»
