Belarus’ light industry builds up presence in geographically distant markets, CIS
MINSK, 24 September (BelTA) – The exports by Bellegprom enterprises rose by 6%. The biggest increase was registered in the geographically distant markets and the CIS (not including Russia), Chairwoman of the Belarusian light industry concern Bellegprom Tatiana Lugina said during a press conference on 23 September, BelTA learned.
The analysis into the Belarusian light industry exports in January-August 2024 showed that the work carried out by Bellegprom to gain a foothold in the markets of Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Kazakhstan, and Azerbaijan yielded results. Sales of domestic products in these markets have made a decent leap.
The head of Bellegprom said that the domestic light industry also performed well in terms of supplies to the Indian market. Exports to China surged almost 3.2 times. The Belarusian light industry also trades with European countries. Tatiana Lugina said that Belarusian linen fabrics are exported to Italy and Türkiye. Small volumes of exports to Serbia and Belgium remained in place.
“Export is an ever-fluid value. Therefore, today it is not easy to predict our presence in a particular market. Despite the influence of various factors of the external economic environment, we intend to keep our numbers and fulfill the tasks that the government sets for us in terms of exports,» Tatiana Lugina noted.
Domestic manufacturers have crafted strategic export growth programs up to 2030. Thus, Bellegprom enterprises will gradually move away from the sale of semi-primary and raw materials to finished products with high added value abroad.
“We used to export a lot of yarn and fabrics. We will adjust the export structure and focus more on bed linen and clothing, footwear rather than leather, and so on,” Tatiana Lugina added. «In recent years the markets have preferred finished goods rather than semi-finished products in the form of fabric. This is our export strategy too.”
