Belarus-Russia Union State praised for world’s most advanced integration level

MINSK, 24 May (BelTA) – The Union State of Belarus and Russia represents the world’s highest level of integration, BelTA learned from Russian Minister of Foreign Affairs Sergey Lavrov in Minsk.
Sergey Lavrov said: “We have two sovereign states and we have the Union State, which represents the highest level of integration we can actually see not only in the post-Soviet space but also in other regions of the world.”
In turn, State Secretary of the Union State of Belarus and Russia Dmitry Mezentsev remarked that the visit of President of Russia Vladimir Putin to Belarus within the framework of a new political cycle after the presidential election in Russia confirms the strategic significance of the Union State integration. “The development of the Union State, which borders we have to defend together, represents the foundation not only for fighting Western sanctions. Today we are an example for the Eurasian Economic Union and the Commonwealth of Independent States,” he said.
The state secretary reminded that the main guidelines for implementing provisions of the Union State Foundation Treaty in 2024-2026 were adopted at a session of the Supreme State Council of the Union State of Belarus and Russia in January. In his words, active and information-packed interaction between ministries and government agencies is now in progress on a regular basis.
