Expert: CIS countries share experience, best practices in children’s rights protection

MINSK, 1 November (BelTA) — The CIS countries are actively sharing their experience and best practices in the protection of children’s rights, Commissioner for Children’s Rights of Kyrgyzstan Asel Chynbaeva told the media on 1 November, BelTA has learned.

The CIS Commissioners for Children’s Rights Commission held a meeting in Minsk on 1 November. “This is our fourth meeting, with 11 issues on the agenda. Kyrgyzstan is presiding this year, and the fifth meeting is set to be held in Bishkek in June,” Asel Chynbaeva said.

The meeting participants discussed measures to protect children left out of the compulsory education system, the accessibility of preschool education for every child, the participation of ombudspersons for children’s rights in improving the competencies of professionals working with children, the use of an evidence-based approach in the field of childhood, the participation of non-profit organizations in the protection of children’s rights, and the experience of repatriation, rehabilitation and reintegration of children affected by armed conflict. The commission members also discussed cooperation on ensuring the rights of children with disabilities, measures to protect children from destructive content in the digital environment, measures for social, cultural and linguistic adaptation of migrant children to the host society. “These are all urgent, necessary issues, and we, within the framework of the commission, can carry out effective work, share experience, information, hold international conferences, seminars and, in the end, improve people’s lives to achieve the best interests of our children,” the commissioner for children’s rights of Kyrgyzstan said.

“The CIS is actively moving forward on this issue. Last year a lot of international conferences were held, and we exchanged plenty of information. We went to the Butovo rehabilitation center in Russia last year. We visited a technopark in Minsk. This is an exchange of experience and knowledge. We realize that each of us is going our own way. We have common problems, points of contact where we can help each other. This may help choose the best option based on the experience of colleagues. Today we are planning to visit a rehabilitation center. Kyrgyzstan plans to open the first municipal rehabilitation center for autistic children in Bishkek. I hope that such experience and cooperation will help us study the model of this country and apply it in our country, taking into account the features of our state,” Asel Chynbaeva added.

The commission also took stock of the progress made in the implementation of the work plan of the CIS Commissioners for Children’s Rights Commission for 2023-2024 and also approved the work plan for 2025.
