Narbaeva: Uzbekistan prioritizes cooperation with Belarus
MINSK, 27 August (BelTA) — Uzbekistan attaches great importance to cooperation with Belarus, Chairperson of the Senate of Uzbekistan Tanzila Narbaeva said as she met with Chairperson of the Council of the Republic of the National Assembly of Belarus Natalya Kochanova, BelTA has learned.
Tanzila Narbaeva congratulated the Belarusian delegation on the successful parliamentary elections. “The composition is very strong. We had an opportunity to get to know each other better. We are confident that the tasks set before the parliament of Belarus will be successfully carried out,” the chairperson of the Senate of the Oliy Majlis said. “I am still impressed by the meetings with Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko, the prime minister and other Belarusian officials. Today we have very good cooperation.”
According to her, the first Belarus-Uzbekistan Women’s Business Forum was effective and fruitful. “We are a connecting bridge between business communities and want to contribute to the work that our presidents are doing,” Tanzila Narbaeva emphasized. “Relations have also intensified at the political level. Our president pays great attention to cooperation with Belarus. The visit of the Belarusian president to Uzbekistan in February 2024 was very fruitful. Aleksandr Lukashenko’s visit to Uzbekistan gave an impetus to the work of members of the government, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs — absolutely all structures, including our cultural institutions.
The meeting was also attended by members of the Belarusian parliamentary delegation and members of the friendship groups of the Senate of the Oliy Majlis of the Republic of Uzbekistan.
The Belarusian delegation led by Natalya Kochanova, Chairperson of the Council of the Republic, is on an official visit to Uzbekistan. These days Tashkent is hosting the second Belarus-Uzbekistan Women’s Business Forum. About 100 representatives of the business community and government bodies are taking part in the forum on Belarus’ behalf. The first day featured six sections covering the main areas of Belarus-Uzbekistan cooperation: machine building, light industry, agriculture, chemical and woodworking industries, medical and educational services, and tourism. The main goal of the sessions was to demonstrate Belarus’ economic potential and encourage interest in establishing new contacts.
A plenary session will be held on the second day of the forum. Plans are in place to sign commercial contracts and cooperation documents during the forum. The Council of the Republic recalled the results of the first Belarus-Uzbekistan Women’s Business Forum: 14 memorandums and agreements on cooperation, including an agreement on the establishment of a joint leather and footwear enterprise, and 15 contracts worth over Br90 million (350 billion Uzbek sums) were signed.
