Potential in place for Belarusian economy to gain more than 3% per annum

MINSK, 8 November (BelTA) – The Belarusian economy should grow by more than 3% every year, the relevant potential is available. Belarusian First Deputy Economy Minister Andrei Kartun shared the opinion with BelTA’s project The Country Speaks.

Speaking about projections of experts, Andrei Kartun underlined that they cannot see the entire picture of what is going on in the country. “I even look at our colleagues, for instance, from the Eurasian Fund for Stabilization and Development. They tightly cooperate with us but they still err on the pessimistic side because they don’t feel the situation and it may be the first time when they hear about many pre-requisites,” he noted.

In his words, annual projections that expect the Belarusian economy to decrease have not been correct for the last few years. “In 2024 experts started thinking that if [the Belarusian economy] only gained from mid-2022, then there is something wrong with the forecasts. We’ve been only gaining for two years. Yes, there are problems. I am not saying there are none. But nevertheless, we’ve been steadily gaining,” the first deputy economy minister noted.

The official remarked that since 2023 the economy has been tasked with regaining the pace of 2022 and with growing faster than the world’s average (slightly less than 3%). “We shouldn’t grow by less than 3%. We didn’t just invent this figure. We see that we have the potential for this growth. And we see the figures that we are already past even 4%,” Andrei Kartun pointed out. “We intend to keep up the pace.”
