MINSK, 27 May (BelTA) — Relations between Belarus and Russia are strategic trusting, Chairman of the Standing Commission on International Affairs of the House of Representatives Sergei Rachkov told reporters following a meeting between Chairman of the House of Representatives Igor Sergeyenko and Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Russia to Belarus Boris Gryzlov, BelTA has learned.

«Russia and Belarus maintain dialogue at the highest level and also at a high, working level. This is evidence that the relations between Belarus and Russia are allied and strategic. They are based on mutual respect and equality. A conversation between the Chairman of the House of Representatives Igor Sergeyenko and Ambassador Boris Gryzlov was held in this vein,» Sergei Rachkov said. “The range of issues discussed was quite wide, despite the fact that the meeting was short. But once again this shows that the parties chose certain topics that required special attention, including at the parliamentary level.»

Preparations are underway for the next session of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Union State of Belarus and Russia, which will be held in Minsk on 17 June, the MP noted. «A delegation of the National Assembly in the Parliamentary Assembly has been formed, taking into account the new, eighth convocation. Some MPs were elected heads of commissions in the Parliamentary Assembly. Therefore, we, MPs, keep our finger on the pulse and exercise a certain parliamentary control over the main directions of the Union State Treaty,» Sergei Rachkov added.
