Xi Jinping believes in great future of China-Belarus cooperation
ASTANA, 5 July (BelTA-XINHUA) – Chinese President Xi Jinping expressed confidence that China-Belarus cooperation will maintain strong momentum thanks to the joint efforts of the two countries.
“I believe that thanks to the efforts of both sides, China-Belarus relations will continue to demonstrate robust growth and make substantial progress,” said Xi Jinping. The Chinese president met with Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko at the SCO summit in Astana.
Congratulating Belarus on its accession to the SCO, Xi Jinping highlighted close contacts at all levels and pointed to the successful implementation of the agreements reached. China’s leader recalled that last year Aleksandr Lukashenko visited China twice. During the visit a roadmap was developed to promote an all-weather and comprehensive strategic partnership between Beijing and Minsk.
The Shanghai Cooperation Organization summit took place in Kazakhstan’s capital city Astana on 3-4 July. The Shanghai Cooperation Organization was founded in Shanghai on 15 June 2001. The organization initially included Russia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, China, Tajikistan, and Uzbekistan. India and Pakistan joined the organization in 2017. Iran joined it in 2023. The Republic of Belarus became a full member of the SCO on 4 July 2024.
