Belarusian FM comments on Poland’s, Lithuania’s interests with regard to Belarus

MINSK, 18 July (BelTA) — Poland and
Lithuania do not like the policy pursued by our president and our government,
Belarusian Minister of Foreign Affairs Maksim Ryzhenkov said on the air of the
ONT TV channel, BelTA has learned.

“They thought (and continue to think) that
some other government, some other president will be more amenable to Poland’s and
Lithuania’s interests. What these interests are? Of course, Poland wants to be
more active in the western regions of Belarus, just like in Ukraine. Many in
Poland still consider it their ‘eastern regions’. Of course, they want to play
the leading economic role in our country. They want the EU to pursue economic
expansion through Poland, which means bigger money and resources. The most
important thing for Lithuania is to kill any rudiments of identification of its
southern regions with the Belarusian national idea called ‘litvinism’ by the Belarusian
self-exiled opposition,” Maksim Ryzhenkov noted.

Poland and Lithuania planned to realize
their plans with the help of the Belarusian self-exiled opposition. However,
they failed to realize these plans. Today the Belarusian self-exiled opposition
became a burden for Poland and Lithuania, the minister emphasized.

“Why to spend money on people
if their work does not lead to anything good in relations between countries? We
all realize that they will not come anywhere, they will not sit anywhere and
they will not pay back to these countries. They will still have to sit down and negotiate
with the current authorities and with President Aleksandr Lukashenko.
Therefore, today the Belarusian self-exiled opposition is becoming a suitcase
without a handle and will be discarded soon,” Maksim Ryzhenkov is convinced
