Minister: Disrespect to historical memory erodes the state

MINSK, 2 May (BelTA) –
Disrespect for historical memory leads to the destruction of the state as a
whole, Belarusian Education Minister Andrei Ivanets told the media ahead of the
3rd Belarusian-Russian patriotic forum at the Belarusian State
Medical University held on 2-3 May, BelTA has learned.

According to him, the
preservation of historical memory is especially important today, as the
generation of winners is passing away and a special responsibility lies on the
descendants.

“We see what the
failure to preserve historical memory can lead to. In fact, it is the
destruction of the state as a whole. Our country has done everything necessary
for everyone to be proud of our country’s past and for us to honor the feat of
the Soviet people,” Andrei Ivanets said.

According to the minister,
in the year of the 80th anniversary of Belarus’ liberation from the Nazis
special attention is paid to the education of the youth. He praised the
fruitful interaction between Belarus and the Russian Federation within the Union
State.

“It has become a
tradition to hold patriotic forums as the current one which has gathered
students from the Russian Federation and Belarusian universities. We have a
constant exchange of delegations and school students visiting memorial sites, places
of military glory and preservation of historical justice,” the minister said.
