Belarus name squad for 2024 UWW Wrestling World Olympic Qualifier

MINSK, 3 May (BelTA) – The Belarusian national team has announced its roster for the 2024 UWW Wrestling World Olympic Qualifier in Istanbul, Türkiye on 9-12 May, BelTA learned from the press service of the NOC of Belarus.

The event will determine the final lineup for the upcoming Paris Olympics. Team Belarus will be represented by 11 athletes. Niurgun Skriabin (65kg) and Arkadzi Pahasian (86kg) will complete in the freestyle wrestling event. Among the Greco-Roman wrestlers will be Hleb Makaranka (60kg), Aliaksandr Liavonchyk (67kg), Tsimur Berdyieu (77kg), Kiryl Maskevich (87kg), and Pavel Hlinchuk (130kg). The women’s wrestling will feature Viyaleta Rebikava (50kg), Veranika Ivanova (62kg), Alina Shauchuk (68kg), and Anastasiya Zimiankova (76kg).

Belarus has earned seven Olympic berths so far. Vanesa Kaladzinskaya (53kg) and Abubakar Khaslakhanau (97kg) claimed the first Olympic licenses for Belarus in wrestling at the World Wrestling Championships in September. Five more Belarusians qualified for the Paris Games at the UWW European OG Qualifier in Baku in April. These are Iryna Kurachkina (57kg), Aryan Tsiutryn (57kg), Mahamedkhabib Kadzimahamedau (74kg), Aliaksandr Hushtyn (97kg) and Dzianis Khramiankou (125kg).
