22 March is the day of remembrance of the victims of the Khatyn tragedy in Belarus. Delegations of the government bodies, enterprises, foreign guests go to the Khatyn Memorial Complex to lay flowers. The village of Khatyn was burned down by the Nazis along with its 149 residents, including 75 children on 22 March 1943. A memorial complex was built on the site of the village in memory of the victims. The decision to build the memorial was made in 1966. The grand opening took place on 5 July 1969. By remembering Khatyn, Belarusians remember thousands of other Belarusian villages destroyed by the Nazi invaders during the Great Patriotic War.
