Belarus’ KGB chief comments on strategy used by external forces against CIS

MINSK, 14 December (BelTA) – External forces cannot be allowed to use the principle of “push and rule” again, Chairman of the State Security Committee (KGB) of Belarus Ivan Tertel said at the the Meeting of Heads of Security Agencies and Intelligence Services of the CIS Member States in Minsk on 14 December, BelTA has learned.

“The participants of the previous meeting acknowledged the deteriorating situation inside the Commonwealth and along its perimeter. The struggle for a competitive multipolar world order is met with an increasingly fierce resistance from Western players,” said Ivan Tertel. “During a period of geopolitical turbulence, one of the most important tasks is to preserve unity and commonality of interests at the regional level. External forces must not be allowed to materialize the time-tested “push and rule” principle. Unfortunately, this principle is still used and shows its efficiency,” the KGB chief said.

The meeting in Minsk is designed as a productive and effective exchange of best practices in identifying and preventing external threats, maintaining stability, and preventing risks and challenges, the KGB chairman remarked.

The participants of the meeting are set to discuss how to improve forms and methods of interaction between the security agencies and intelligence services of the CIS member states in order to frustrate the attempts by the West to destabilize the situation in the CIS space.

Ivan Tertel believes that the meeting will give a boost to interaction between intelligence services and special services, and will pave the way for the development of specific cooperation mechanisms.
