MINSK, 14 December (BelTA) – The Belarusian government and the public have repeatedly proved that pressure from the Euro-Atlantic bloc must and can be resisted, Director of the Foreign Intelligence Service of Russia (SVR) Sergei Naryshkin said at the meeting of Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko with the heads of the delegations who had come to Minsk to take part in the Meeting of Heads of Security Agencies and Intelligence Services of the CIS Member States, BelTA has learned.

The head of the Russian Foreign Intelligence Service thanked the Belarusian side for hosting this meeting. Addressing the head of state, he said: “Thank you for giving your take on key events that are taking place in the world and in the CIS.”

In response, Aleksandr Lukashenko reaffirmed Belarus’ readiness to keep hosting such meetings: “Sergei Evgenievich, you can hold all your events here, you are always welcome.”

“We know that Minsk is a great host, it’s always very comfortable to work here,” noted Sergei Naryshkin.

According to him, the meeting in Minsk is designed to discuss steps to expand cooperation between security agencies and intelligence services “in order to thwart the West’s efforts to destabilize the situation” in the Commonwealth of Independent States.

“Belarus has repeatedly experienced overt aggression from the Western bloc led by the United States of America that apparently hates Minsk’s steadfast determination to defend its interests, and the interests of its state and citizens. The Belarusian government and the public have always managed to withstand this onslaught with dignity and have proved that pressure from the Euro-Atlantic bloc must and can be resisted,” said the head of the Russian Foreign Intelligence Service.

Reviewing the meeting of the Belarusian leader with the heads of the delegations, Sergei Naryshkin said that Aleksandr Lukashenko gave a detailed and in-depth analysis of the unfolding geopolitical situation in the world and in the region with a focus on the CIS. The president also highlighted the important role of state security and intelligence agencies in maintaining stability in the Commonwealth. “Aleksandr Grigorievich gave a very useful piece of political advice on how to act in the current difficult situation, when the Western bloc is abusing its position and trying to destabilize the situation in our countries, to disunite, to separate and isolate the Commonwealth countries. However, we are not giving in and will not give in. We know that our common position is right, and that it is important to pursue a uniform policy in maintaining security and stability in the Commonwealth,” Sergei Naryshkin said.
