SAMARKAND, 5 December (BelTA) — In the center of old Samarkand is the Registan Square which dates back to the 15th-17th centuries and which is often called the pearl of Central Asia. One of the most magnificent squares in the world is a place of attraction for tourists from all over the world. The ensemble of majestic buildings, unique examples of architecture and urban planning, adorns the square from three sides: Tilla-Kari Madrassah, Ulugbek Madrasah to the left of the square, and Sherdor Madrasah to the right. All three buildings have their own unique décor. They were erected by two rulers at different times.

In 2001 Samarkand was included in the UNESCO World Heritage List.
