West’s plans to inflict strategic defeat on Moscow dismissed as ‘wishful thinking’

MINSK, 14 December (BelTA) — The West’s plans to inflict a strategic defeat on Moscow are wishful thinking, Director of the Foreign Intelligence Service (SVR) Sergei Naryshkin said at the 19th Meeting of CIS Heads of Security Bodies and Intelligence Services on 14 December, BelTA has learned.
Ukraine is the key point for the West’s subversive efforts in the region, he said.
«Now the United States and its NATO allies are cynically using the population of this country as cannon fodder in their aggression against Russia. By sending endless echelons with weapons and hardware to the Kiev regime, the Americans and Europeans are trying to inflict a strategic defeat on Moscow, but the situation on the ground shows that such dreams are doomed to fail,» Sergei Naryshkin said.
According to him, today the West is formulating their goal in a different way, namely, ‘We must not allow Russia to win’. «But they will have to abandon this postulate as well,» he stressed.
The SVR director noted that the special services of the United States and Great Britain are concentrating their efforts on finding mercenaries to participate in hostilities on the side of Ukraine.
«The West attaches particular importance to the ethnic battalions from among the representatives of the CIS states, their manning and combat readiness. They see them, their individual members as a reserve for carrying out subversive and sabotage-terrorist actions not only on the territory of the Russian Federation, but also in other countries of the CIS, including during important election campaigns,» he said.
Sergei Naryshkin urged to keep focus on the problem of international terrorism not only in the context of the spread of ideas of religious extremism, but also in the light of the incoming signals about the Anglo-Saxons’ plans to once again use radical groups to achieve their goals.
